High Construction Joins Canstruction to Fight Hunger in the Southern Tier
Elmira, N.Y. — High Construction Company will “Step Up to the Plate to Fight Hunger” by participating in Canstruction, an annual benefit for the Foodbank of the Southern Tier. The competition and exhibition will be held October 20 – 27, 2013 at the Arnot Mall, Horseheads, N.Y.
Canstruction is a design-build competition in which teams create structures made of canned food. The structures are judged and placed on public exhibition. Following the competition, all food used to create the structures is donated to the food bank.
High Construction’s team, including partners Fagan Engineers & Landscape Surveyors PC; I.D. Booth Inc.; John F. & John P. Wenzel Contractors Inc.; and AJH Design, developed a canned food display titled “Field of Beans: Step Up to the Plate to Fight Hunger”. Constructed primarily of canned beans, High Construction’s display is a tribute to historic Dunn Field Municipal Stadium, home field of the Elmira Pioneers. The display features the iconic entryway, a representative grandstand area, and a prominent home plate.
The public is welcome to watch High Construction’s team build its structure, beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 20 at the Arnot Mall, and may vote that week on their favorite structure for the People’s Choice Award. High Construction’s structure and those of other Canstruction teams will be on display through October 27.
