The Allentown Turnpike Service Plaza is the busiest of 21 rest stops along the 532-mile Pennsylvania turnpike. HMS Host in cooperation with the PA Turnpike Commission set out to transform the perception of the Plaza into a friendly, secure facility that is easily accessible by all patrons. The project included the demolition of the existing 1960s-era building and small food service outbuildings, and reconstruction of the new Plaza (in the same footprint), along with related site improvements. The new bright and fully modernized building offers comfort, information, help in emergencies, food, and refreshments to travelers. The facility was built to LEED Certified (not registered). High Construction reconstructed a total of eight service plazas along the Pennsylvania Turnpike, including Allentown, Bowmansville, Cumberland Valley, Hickory Run, Highspire, Lawn, North Midway, and Valley Forge.
