High Construction provided preconstruction and design-build services for High Concrete Group’s 18,000-plus square foot equipment maintenance facility. The facility received a LEED Silver rating from the U.S. Green Building Council.
During the preconstruction process High Construction provided LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) costs and payback analysis in conjunction with the architect and engineer. Our team also tracked the project scope and packaged several items as add alternates which allowed the project to come in on budget and still allowed the owner the ability to evaluate the additional cost/benefit of each added scope item on bid day.
The all-precast building features thermally efficient sandwich wall panels fabricated by the owner, High Concrete Group. With insulating foam literally sandwiched inside them, the panels provide an R-value of 25 and are reinforced with innovative CarbonCast carbon fiber shear trusses that make them structurally composite for load bearing. The roof is composed of CarbonCast double tees which were also manufactured by the owner. Also used for the driving surfaces in parking garages, the double tees are made with non-corrosive carbon fiber flange reinforcement and are 10 percent lighter in weight than traditional double tees.
The new building is used by High Concrete's maintenance department to service heavy trucks, pickup trucks and cars, and other plant equipment.
This project received the GreenSite Project of the Year 2009 Award in the Industrial Category. The contest is sponsored by Concrete Construction and The Concrete Producer magazines.
