Located in downtown Lancaster, the Pennsylvania College of Art & Design has approximately 250 full-time students. About 80 percent of the students come from outside of Lancaster County and were arranging their own living and dining needs within a five block radius of the school because the college did not offer student housing or meal plans. When the college realized that about 30 percent of prospective students were choosing other schools due to this limitation, they partnered with Lancaster Newspapers, the owner and developer of a stretch of vacant, historic buildings located just two blocks from campus, to convert the upper floors of the properties into student apartments. High Construction was hired to convert the second and third floors into nine apartments, ranging from one to four bedrooms per unit, along with common living areas, kitchens, laundry facilities, and an elevator.
