Shiny metal siding and blue-trimmed windows accent the brick masonry on Marion T. Academy. The two-story school includes 25 classrooms, a multipurpose room, a library, and administrative offices. The building was completed on a nine-month construction schedule, in time for fall classes for the school's 500 students in kindergarten through sixth grades. To save the school money, High Construction implemented two key value engineering solutions: 1) Because the land was considered a DENREX site, the contaminated soil could not leave the premises and was therefore mixed with a geotech fabric and used as less expensive fill. 2) High-impact board was used in place of reinforced fiber panel on the interior walls, which saved several thousand dollars and kept the project on budget.
