Lancaster Mennonite School hired High Construction to provide preconstruction and construction management services for a new academic building to be built on the school’s Lancaster, Pa., campus. High Construction joined the project team at the schematic design phase, with the project more than $1.3 million over budget. Over several months, during the preconstruction process, High Construction worked with the owner, architect, and consultants to identify major costs and refine the scope to fit within their budget.
The completed 45,000-square-foot structure includes 15 new classrooms for science, math, business, computer lab; a welcome center; and various community areas. The facility boasts several sustainable features such as a geothermal unit that efficiently heats and cools the facility, a GreenGrid roof garden system, heat-reflective and energy efficient White TPO (Thermoplastic Polyolefin) roof, low consumption urinals and toilets with sensor operated flushometers, recycled floor tiles that do not require waxing, radiant heat flooring, and use of native species in landscaping, among other features.
