Location : Cheyney, PA
High Construction Company performed exterior renovations to Humphreys Hall, a 100-plus-year-old building on Cheyney University's campus in Cheyney, Pa. Prior to restoration, the gutters and downspouts were not functioning, wood eaves were rotted, and the stonework was deteriorating, with biological growth, missing mortar, and cracked and missing stones. High Construction rehabilitated the building as well as made enhancements to the surroundings. The project consisted primarily of exterior renovation work on the building: restoration of the fieldstone walls, wood windows, and brick chimneys; and replacement of the slate roof and dormers. High Construction also built a new mechanical building as part of the project, as well as provided new landscaping and sidewalks. Vacated for nearly 10 years prior to the renovation, the building was programmed to be used as a future student residence hall. The project received a 2011 Grand Jury Award from the Preservation Alliance of Greater Philadelphia.
