Elizabethtown College's new two-story Campus Center provides a focal point and increases a sense of community at the center of campus. The project involved renovations to combine two existing adjacent facilities of approximately 57,000 square feet and varying floor elevations, into one cohesive structure. The project also included new construction of approximately 40,000 square feet. The new structure includes a two-story skylit corridor, a new bookstore (twice the size of the old one), new eating places that include an improved Jay's Nest, a coffee shop called the Blue Bean Café and food stations like a salad bar called the Marketplace, an information desk, a mail room, a student events place, a dining room, and administrative and student activity offices. Outside are a plaza and dining area. High Construction provided preconstruction services as well as construction management services for the project. As a result, the college saved $600,000, was able to use the completed facility 17 months earlier than anticipated (the construction schedule was cut from 32 months to 15 months), and no change orders were encountered.
